Chuck Colson, founder of Prison Fellowship and Colson Center for Christian Worldview, went home to be with the Lord this past Saturday, April 21. As a volunteer in a prison ministry, I have a greater appreciation of Chuck Colson’s work than was ever possible just a few short years ago. I knew Colson had become a strong Christian doing great work in prisons, but I knew little about the totality of his work.
I think history will show that Colson was one of the most influential and effective Christian leaders of our time.
After a 2010 meeting with the President of Prison Fellowship, I began to follow Colson’s ministries more closely.
In 2011 I heard Chuck Colson preach. I consider it a privilege to have experienced his keen intellect,
his joy for the Lord and his passion in serving God’s Kingdom.
He enriched, enlightened and blessed legions of lives.
Charles W. Colson, former aide to President Nixon, converted to Christianity after being indicted for obstruction of justice in 1974 (Watergate) but prior to being sentenced.
At the time he stated “I have committed my life to Jesus Christ. I can work for the Lord in prison or out of prison, that’s how I want to spend my life”.
As inmate 23227 he served 7 months in prison.
You can read the story in his book Born Again.
I was barely a teenager during the Watergate years but the events were memorable. What an amazing transformation into a prolific evangelist and Christian leader. “Chuck’s life is a testimony to God’s power to forgive, redeem and transform”.
He experienced God’s AMAZING GRACE and Chuck Colson chose to live life for the Lord.
Although he has entered into glory, Chuck’s message and ministries will live on
and continue to have an eternal impact for good.

“One of the most wonderful things about being a Christian
is that I don’t ever get up in the morning and wonder if what I do matters.
I live every day to the fullest because I can live it through Christ
and I know no matter what I do today, I’m going to do something
to advance the Kingdom of God.”
– Charles Colson
His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant;
you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things.
Enter into the joy of your lord.’ Matthew 25:23
