God is always with you. There is no place you can go and nothing you can do that will take away His presence. Psalm 139 makes this clear. God’s Holy word says it all. No need for me to write another word.
Bask in His truth. Slowly,thoughtfully read Psalm 139 below.
1 O Lord, you have searched me
and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue
you know it completely, O Lord.
5 You hem me in —behind and before;
you have laid your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.
7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 *If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,”
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.
13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
16 your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!
18 Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand.
When I awake,
I am still with you.
19 If only you would slay the wicked, O God!
Away from me, you bloodthirsty men!
20 They speak of you with evil intent;
your adversaries misuse your name.
21 Do I not hate those who hate you, O Lord,
and abhor those who rise up against you?
22 I have nothing but hatred for them;
I count them my enemies.
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.
A few additional thoughts-
Verses are 9 & 10 hold special significance for me. I had them inscribed on a stone bench in the Laura Bush Promenade at Southern Methodist University.(Fondren Library)
Plane Crash: In 1991, God indeed was with me on the far side of the sea in Tierra del Fuego.
The plane in which we were traveling crashed into the Beagle Channel killing 20 people all of whom drowned including my husband. I survived.
God guided me out of the sunken airplane. He showed me “the light” when I prayed to Him to “show me the way”.
In the dim, cold frenzy I rose from the bottom of the plane and saw a light, the window. I traveled in the water horizontally by pulling along the tops of the seat-backs, looking down I saw a larger light, the door of the airplane. I dove down. Swam to the surface. By God’s grace and mercy I could still breathe.
(I had swallowed the water instead of gasping and breathing the water into my lungs)
I survived the cold of the Beagle Channel as He held my hand while I struggled in the icy waters to swim to the shore.
My body was shutting down as there were only a few minutes to survive in those overwhelming conditions.
God was and continues to be my strength and my refuge
in times of trouble.

Julie,
I was working at the U.S. Embassy in Santiago, Chile, at the time of the Lan Chile plane crash at Puerto Presidente Williams in 1991. I was coordinating the Embassy’s response to the crash and I believe we met at the Santiago airport when you flew from Punta Arena to Santiago to catch your fight back to the U.S. I remember your story and am pleased to see that the last 30 years have been good ones.

Perry- Wow.Thank you for contacting me adn for your kind note. Perfect timing as I have been trying to piece together a few facts of the entire incident. Lately I have been asked questions about it and had to recount the incident to a few people. There are a few facts of which I am uncertain. Perhaps you may remember. I can vividly recall the events leading up to the crash. The time trapped in the plane underwater, then praying for God to show me the light and I then saw a light that I recognized it was a window. etc etc. Diving down through the door and ultimately surfacing, still able to breathe and the time in the water attempting to swim to shore (which a did against all odds due to the freezing water). I don’t completely remember the time after being in the small hotel onshore and having to board the cruise ship (as there was nowhere else to house us.) I remember spending time on the cruise ship and other events including being called to the Captain’s quarters where he told me my husband had been found floating in the water. As you know I eventually had to fly back to Santiago, although I don’t remember it. There was a period of waiting in Chile for many things. My Dad flew down to help. Someone with the U.S. Embassy (or other agency) brought my husband’s silver cross to me. Was that you?
