Seek God. What does that mean?
That is a great question with great answers.
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13
Seeking God means seeking His presence or His face.
“My heart says of you, ‘Seek his face!’ Your face, Lord, I will seek.” Psalm 27:8
“Now set your mind and heart to seek the Lord your God:” 1 Chronicles 22:19
Why? Your are His creation. He loves you dearly and desires a relationship with his children. He wants to spend time with you. God has a plan just for you. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him,who have been called according tho his purpose” Romans 8:28
Let God be in control.
When you choose to step aside, let go and let God be in charge then you are trusting your Abba Father.
Focus your mind on God alone, praying with a humble heart for His will to be done and not “your will“.
Let Him lead you over time to be, say and do what He desires for His purposes in His timing.
God is not like a magic Genie. Do you treat him that way?
Do you mostly pray for Him to grant your needs or desires?
Does he serve you rather than you serving Him?
Imagine how God feels when we don’t seek to know Him, pray to Him and ask Him to guide us.
God desires all of you, not just bits and pieces as it fits your schedule.
Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” Matthew 22:37.
How? Have a true and loving relationship with God. Choose to make Him your #1 priority. Any healthy and thriving relationship requires time spent together. Read my post “Personal Relationship with God”.
“Seek God” with time spent:
-praying to Him in the name of Jesus,
-worshiping Him with praise and thanksgiving
-enjoying his presence,
-reading his word as given to us in the Bible,
-serving Him,
-sharing His Love with others,
-asking for His wisdom and His will for your life,
-marveling at His creation and the wonders before you in nature
-making Him known
-seeing God at work through the lives of others
-looking for and recognizing God’s work in your life
When? Begin your day with God. Seek him early in the morning then seek Him throughout the day. Seek the Lord and his strength: seek his presence continually” Psalm 105:4
Beginning your day with God brings you peace and joy from being in His presence.
You will feel comfort from praising Him with a thankful heart, seeking His forgiveness, praying for others and telling Him what is on your heart.
Develop the habit of focusing your mind on God. This sets the tone for your day in a way not possible without time spent
with Him.
“O God, You are my God; Early will I seek you; My Soul thirst for you….“Psalm 63:1
“In the morning, O Lord, your hear my voice: in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation” Psalm 5:3
Jesus is our example to follow. He prayed in the morning and throughout the day.
“Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went our and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.” Mark 1:35
“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
“Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.” 1 Chronicles 16:11
Obstacles
Satan. He tries to rob you from spending time with God. (worrying, distractions, pleasures)
Pride. Perhaps you feel you don’t need God.
Rebellion. You are in charge and like it that way. see Jeremiah 32:33
Indifference.
Indulgence. Spending too much time on the pleasures of this earth.
Busyness. Keeping yourself so busy you don’t think of God. You have crowded him out. If someone you love ignores you how do you feel?
Worry.
Laziness.
Idols. Your idols take you away from time with God. Is it family, work, school, constant entertainment, socializing, sports, errands, hobbies,TV, games, internet??
What distracts you from choosing to be in God’s presence? Think about it. Make a change.
Read what Jesus said to a “distracted” Martha too busy to be still and listen to Him.
“As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. [39] She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. [40] But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” [41] “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, [42] but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:38-42
Be still. Set aside what you are doing. This very moment talk to your loving father. Feel His prescence and love. God first!
Who should seek God? Everyone. We are all God’s children and he desires a relationship with every one of us. It pleases God, our Abba Father.
He loves you deeply, that is why he sent his son Jesus to seek and save the lost.
If you do not know God and trust Jesus as your Lord and Savior read How to Receive Eternal Salvation-Say “Yes” to Christ.
“And without faith it is impossible to please God,
because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.? Hebrews 11:6
Seek Him in Jesus name.
Without faith in Jesus and reliance on his work on the cross to cleanse us from our sins we, as sinners, cannot be in the presence of a Holy and perfect God.
“Behold the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that is cannot save; Nor his ear heavy, that is cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear. Isaiah 59 1-2
“There is not a righteous man on earth who does what is right and never sins.” Ecclesiastes 7:20. See Romans 3:23
Open your heart to God. Get to know in a deep and meaningful way. Slow down, turn to God and stop the busyness.
This does not come naturally for many of us. I know that for me I cannot commune with God if my mind is going 100 different directions.
I desire to serve God well, honor him and make an eternal difference for Him yet I so often fail.
When I rightly choose to be still and seek Him in a quiet place, I cannot help but smile – truly feeling his love, forgiveness and grace.
I feel so peaceful in His presence. I am renewed, encouraged and guided.
“You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence.” Acts 2:28
