Sickness has many forms -physical, mental, emotional or spiritual. Your prayers are precious to God and a vital way to bless others. Below are the top Bible verses to pray for someone who is sick.
Whether for ourselves or interceding for others, God calls us to pray in all circumstances including sickness and suffering.
May you and those who are sick in any way be comforted, uplifted, encouraged and feel the Peace only God can provide.
God hears our prayers through Jesus who intercedes for those who are His.
Although God does not always answer our prayers in the manner or the timing we desire, we can trust that His plans are greater than ours.
This gave me great peace as I chose in my time of greatest distress and calamity, to trust His Will for my life and His greater purposes.
Isaiah 55:8-9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” –
Romans 8:28 We find comfort in knowing “that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
I find great reassurance in this truth.
Below are my favorite Bible verses to meditate upon and pray for yourself or others.
To learn why I was moved to write this post see “Backstory” at the end of this post.
(I intended to use only 10 verses; however, God’s truth is so rich I had to include more)
Praise God
“Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being,
praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
And crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”
–Psalm 103:1-5
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!
In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope
through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,” 1 Peter 1:3
God is Always With You.
“Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.”
–Psalm 139:7-10
“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
–Psalm 23:1-4
God will give you Peace as you trust him.

–Numbers 6:24-26
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition,
with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding,
will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
–Philippians 4:6-7
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort,
who comforts us in all our troubles,
so that we can comfort those in any trouble
with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.”
–2 Corinthians 1:3-4
“I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
he delivered me from all my fears.”
–Psalm 34:4
Trust God’s Greater Plan
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding
in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.”
–Proverbs 3:5-6
“I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
– Philippians 4:13
“I am the Lord’s servant,”

May it be to me as you have said”
And then the angel left her”
–Luke 1:38
“I will say of the Lord,”He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
–Psalm 91:2
Let others know about your illness so they may pray for you! It will bless them for you to allow them this privilege.
“Is any one of you sick?
He should call the elders of the church to pray over him
and anoint him with oil
in the name of the Lord.”
–James 5:14
“Therefore confess your sins to each other
and pray for each other so that you may be healed.
The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.”
–James 5:16
God can heal if that is His will. Believe that he will heal, and pray that way.
“For nothing is impossible with God” –Luke 1:37
“As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out,
“Have mercy on us, Son of David!”
When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them,
“Do you believe that I am able to do this?”
“Yes, Lord,” they replied.
Then he touched their eyes and said,
“According to your faith will it be done to you”;
-Matthew 9:27-29.
What happened?
These men were healed because they believed and had faith. There are many stories in the Bible of Jesus healing people.
“O Lord my God, I called to you for help
and you healed me.”
-Psalm 30:2
“If any of you lacks wisdom,he should ask God,
who gives generously to all without finding fault,
and it will be given to him.
But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt,
because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea,
blown and tossed by the wind.
That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord;
he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.”
-James 1:5-8
“O Sovereign Lord, you have begun to show to your servant your greatness
and your strong hand.
For what god is there in heaven or on earth
who can do the deeds and mighty works you do?”

God will hear your prayers!
“In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice;
in the morning I lay my requests before you
and wait in expectation.”

Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings.
My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.”
-Psalm 63:6-8
Gods strength and power is made perfect in weakness.
“But he said to me,
“My grace is sufficient for you,
for my power is made perfect in weakness.
” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses,
in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties.
For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
-2 Corinthians 12:9-10
Joy in these circumstances it is good for all.

-Proverbs 18:14
And finally, I just love the following verses and find comfort in them! I hope you do too.

that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life
to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord
and to seek him in his temple”
