God is LOVE. Can you imagine life without love? LOVE is the greatest gift from GOD. Love permeates our lives. It binds us all together.
In Ancient Greek ἀγάπη, agápē is the term for the kind of love originating from God for his children
The English word “Love” appears more than 500 times in the NIV translation of the Bible!
Read what God says about love.
1If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. 4Love is patient, Love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8Love never fails. 1 Corinthians 13: 1-8 |
Love is the greatest gift from God.
Do we love in the way God desires?
For most of us the answer is probably “no”. The words “ALWAYS” in verse 7- those are “gotcha’ words”. So final. So perfect.
At times I manage to love in some of the ways listed above;however, if I examine myself honestly I often fail miserably in loving by God’s standards.
I choose instead to stay in “my own little world” or “do my own thing“.
That’s pathetic in general and reprehensible in light of what God has done for me through Jesus.
So I pray today that God will enable me to bear the fruit of love.
He made me to be loving person.
I must stay close to God, seeking His constant guidance, desiring for His will and His plan for my life to be done. Think of others more and myself less. God 1st, my husband 2nd,my family 3rd, others 4th and me 5th.
The Bible must serve as my guidebook to love and life.
What about you? What does this verse say to you today??
From verse 4-7 which aspect of loving others is the most difficult for you?
Are you generally kind?
Are you easily angered?
Are you mostly looking out for yourself or placing others needs first?
Do you brag or boast, placing yourself on a pedestal or are you humble and allow others to have their moment in the spotlight?
Let us thoughtfully consider which aspects of loving we need to improve upon the most.
Examine how you are loving this very day. This very moment.
Purpose to reach out to someone today and extend your love.
