Barak Obama has just won his second term as President of the United States of America. The people have spoken. Although I did not vote for Obama, I will continue to pray for him, his family and his Presidency. Part of these prayers have been and will be for his protection and for him to allow God to be his guide.
What does the Bible say about praying for Government? Here are several Bible verses for you to reflect upon.
Romans 13:1
“Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.”
Romans 13:6-7
“6 This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing.
7 Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.”
1 Timothy 2:1-4
“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people,
2 for kings and all who are in high positions,
that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.
3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior,
4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth”
1 Peter 2:17
“17 Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor”
Titus 3:1-2
“1 Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good,
2 to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men.”
Of course, always remember we are to obey God before all others. We must continue to be guided by God’s word
found in the Bible.
Acts 5:29
“Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey God rather than men!”
We who live in the United States of America are blessed to be able to elect our officials as we have done tonight. Living in a free democracy is a true privilege which we should never take for granted.
Join me in Praying for our elected officials. Remember them in always in your prayers.
Praise God from whom all blessings flow. To God be the glory!
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him,
who have been called according to his purpose.”- Romans 8:28
