Two months ago God provided me with some sudden “down time”. I experienced an abrupt detachment of my retina, a rare thing to happen, yet I am used to rare occurrences.
(Perhaps I will post that crazy list some day.)
Through such events God has drawn me to Him in ever increasing closeness.
Retinal Surgery Recovery down time |
Although I was plunged into partial darkness,
I was calm, for I trust God in all things.
For I know I am His and God is good.
His ways are not our ways.
His ways are higher and holy.
See Isaiah 55:8-9.
I prayed, thanking Him for the privilege of being His child, saved by His grace and mercy, through
the atoning blood of Jesus,
from the ultimate consequence of my sins,
eternal separation from my Abba Father.
If you do not know Him or you are unsure you should read How to Receive Eternal Salvation)
I also thanked God that I lived in America where I could receive excellent medical care and I asked for healing, if that was God’s will.
See Romans 12:2
Before this incident my eyesight was perfect! I did not need reading glasses read any kind of glasses.
Based upon my symptoms including the abrupt appearance of a gigantic black floater,
I suspected a detached retina was possible though not probable.
Quick research on the internet had provided the clues.
I immediately contacted an eye doctor, described the craziness happening in my eye, and 2 hours later
I was in their office.
Within 24 hours I had retinal detachment surgery with vitrectomy
Perhaps in a later post I will describe what is looks and feels like to have a detached retina and then the healing process.
Although I faced an uncertain outcome, God gave me PEACE.
” will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal”-Isaiah 26:3-4
People daily suffer tragedies such as abuse, persecution, slavery, abandonment, war, starvation, mental illness, accidents, chronic illness and death to name but a few.
These are far worse than losing sight in my eye.
The kind of “sight” I never want to lose, is the sight of God- His love, His Son, His Word,
His Goodness, His Beauty, His Peace, His Tender Mercies and His Marvelous Light.
To God be the Glory, to him who called me out of darkness into his marvelous light
see 1 Peter 2:9
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” –John 8:12
