Everyone was wearing all white, except for the volunteers. It was a familiar scene, spirit filled to be sure
as a few inmates stood before the group each reciting a Bible verse they had carefully memorized,
hiding God’s word in their hearts.
Then an unexpected and glorious surprise occurred as an inmate poured out her thoughts and emotions through poetry. We listened to her recite a poem she penned here in the windowless dorm at Dawson State Jail.
She was riveting.
I volunteer with a prison ministry at a women’s Christ-centered dorm within Dawson State Jail in Downtown Dallas.
I never really considered volunteering in a prison, but I know God called me to say “yes” when a friend of mine started this prison bible study at Dawson (thank you S.H. for the opportunity).
I have been blessed by the inmates, my fellow volunteers and the entire ministry more than you could imagine.
God can use each of us as a vessel through which he works his plans.
You only have to go where he calls.
According to Prison Fellowship 2.3 million Americans are behind bars. They could use your help and support.

The thoughts and feelings expressed in the poem below are straightforward and honest. I can feel her emotions.
I see hope and wisdom amidst the heartache. Through it all she knows God loves her, no matter what.
This is the first poem I will publish as part of a new series entitled “Poems from Prison”
FALLEN Angels
I know my Halo’s tilted
Its shifted to the side
It’s weighted down with envy
jilted by the ride
I know my wing is broken
it popped right out of place
that’s because my anger is
reflected in my face
I left my harp in heaven
somewhere among the clouds
I didn’t want to ask for help
This Angel’s very proud
I’ve fallen straight from above
It was a painful fall
Does God even miss me
Did he even notice at all
This ones for the fallen Angels
The ones like me and you
The ones who don’t know exactly
What God wants them to do
This ones for the ones
Who aren’t sure how to make it home
Who walk around weary
and upon the earth just roam
Tilted Halo’s Broken Wings
The LORD KNOWS ALL ABOUT THESE THINGS
In His plan He saw you fall
It DOESN’T CHANGE HIS LOVE AT ALL
This Journey is a PROCESS
Just Like Learning How to Fly
IN ORDER TO TRULY LIVE MY LOVE
EVERY Angel MUST LEARN TO CRY
